Secondary English Teacher

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent / Long-Term
Salary: £160-£220 per day (dependent on experience)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:00pm

An established and high-achieving secondary school in the Bury area is seeking to recruit a committed and dynamic English Teacher to join their department from September 2026.

The school promotes a culture of academic excellence alongside strong pastoral care, ensuring pupils are supported to succeed both academically and personally. Staff benefit from a collaborative working environment and clear leadership support.

The successful candidate will teach English Language and Literature across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to teach Key Stage 5 for suitably experienced applicants. You will be responsible for engaging students with a broad and stimulating curriculum that develops literacy, analytical thinking, and a lifelong appreciation of literature.

• Deliver high-quality English lessons that meet the needs of all learners
• Monitor student performance and use assessment data to inform teaching
• Support pupils in achieving strong GCSE outcomes
• Encourage critical thinking, reading for pleasure, and written expression
• Uphold high standards of behaviour and classroom management
• Contribute to departmental planning and curriculum development

The ideal candidate will:

• Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
• Have experience teaching English within a secondary school setting
• Demonstrate strong subject knowledge in both Language and Literature
• Be committed to improving student outcomes and engagement
• Have excellent organisational and communication skills
• Work effectively as part of a supportive and collaborative team

• Right to work in the UK
• Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
• Two recent professional references relating to working with young people
