About the Role
We are seeking a committed and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Mentor to join a secondary school in Bury from September. The school supports students who have been partially or permanently excluded from mainstream education and need additional guidance to re-engage with learning.
In this role, you will support students who may display challenging behaviours, both in the classroom and through targeted 1:1 mentoring. You will play a vital part in promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and personal development within a structured and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities

Support students with SEMH needs during lessons

Deliver 1:1 mentoring and targeted interventions where required

Assist teachers in delivering lessons and structured activities

Promote positive behaviour and support emotional regulation

Build strong, trusting relationships to improve engagement and progress

Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
About You
Previous experience is not essential; however, you should feel confident working with challenging behaviour and be able to demonstrate relevant transferable skills, such as:

Youth work or mentoring experience

Care or support work
-
Coaching or community-based roles with young people

Behaviour support or SEMH-related experience
-
Any experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals
