Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Mentor

About the Role

We are seeking a committed and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Mentor to join a secondary school in Bury from September. The school supports students who have been partially or permanently excluded from mainstream education and need additional guidance to re-engage with learning.

In this role, you will support students who may display challenging behaviours, both in the classroom and through targeted 1:1 mentoring. You will play a vital part in promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and personal development within a structured and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students with SEMH needs during lessons

  • Deliver 1:1 mentoring and targeted interventions where required

  • Assist teachers in delivering lessons and structured activities

  • Promote positive behaviour and support emotional regulation

  • Build strong, trusting relationships to improve engagement and progress

  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

About You

Previous experience is not essential; however, you should feel confident working with challenging behaviour and be able to demonstrate relevant transferable skills, such as:

  • Youth work or mentoring experience

  • Care or support work

  • Coaching or community-based roles with young people

  • Behaviour support or SEMH-related experience

  • Any experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals
