SEN Teaching Assistant - Upminster, Essex

Salary: £21,600-£25,200 per annum

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive specialist educational setting in Upminster. The successful candidate will work closely with students who have a range of special educational needs, helping them to access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their individual goals.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a positive impact on young people's lives and who is committed to supporting students with additional learning, communication, social, emotional, or behavioural needs.



Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with special educational needs.
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging, differentiated learning activities.
  • Support students in developing communication, social interaction, and independence skills.
  • Implement strategies outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing within the classroom.
  • Encourage participation in lessons and wider school activities.
  • Assist with monitoring, recording, and reporting on pupil progress.
  • Support personal care needs where required.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents/carers, and staff members.


Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is desirable.
  • Understanding of needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Speech and Language Difficulties, or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, health and social care, or psychology are advantageous but not essential.
