Empowering Learning is seeking an experienced and dedicated SEN Teacher to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provision in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate teacher who is committed to supporting young people who may have experienced barriers to education and require a nurturing, trauma-informed approach to learning.

The successful candidate will play a key role in helping learners build confidence, develop positive relationships, and achieve both academic and personal success.



The Role

As an SEN Teacher within this SEMH provision, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils
  • Create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs, challenging behaviours, and additional learning needs
  • Develop positive relationships that encourage engagement and attendance
  • Work closely with support staff, parents, carers, and external agencies
  • Monitor progress and implement strategies to help pupils achieve their potential
  • Promote positive behaviour through restorative and therapeutic approaches
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews and individual learning plans where required


The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a teacher who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Has experience working with pupils with SEMH needs, SEND, or within alternative provisions
  • Demonstrates excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Has a resilient, patient, and adaptable approach
  • Understands trauma-informed practice and relationship-based approaches to education
  • Is committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable learners
  • Can build positive and professional relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues


Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching children or young people within a school setting
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
  • Ability to provide satisfactory professional references
  • Right to work in the UK
