SEN Teaching Assistant

Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire – with travel into Barking 2 days a week from September – Travel will be paid for by the school. Community-Based (Home, Community Venues, Libraries, and Educational Settings)

£24,000 - £26,500 Per Annum

Forever Education is supporting a unique independent Special Educational Needs (SEN) group based in London, which provides therapeutic education for children and young people with special educational and neurodiverse learning needs. The outreach service is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated one-to-one educational, emotional, and behavioural support to a 14-year-old  Male student who is currently accessing education within the community. The successful candidate will build positive relationships, promote engagement with learning, support personal development, and help the student work towards agreed educational and social outcomes. The role would be based in Hoddesdon, with travel into Barking – 2 days a week from September, which would be fully paid for by the outreach service.

The role requires flexibility, resilience, and a nurturing approach to support a young person who has experienced barriers to education, including SEMH needs, anxiety, autism, ADHD, trauma, school refusal, or other additional needs.

About the Role – SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Provide consistent one-to-one support to the student in community-based learning environment
  •  Build a trusting and positive professional relationship with the student.
  •  Support the student's academic learning through planned educational activities.
  • Adapt learning materials to meet the student's individual needs and abilities.
  • Encourage participation, engagement, and independence in learning activities.
  • Promote confidence, resilience, and self-esteem.

PERSONAL DETAILS – SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, trauma, or anxiety-related needs.
  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational, youth work, care, or support setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with vulnerable young people.
  •  Patient, calm, and resilient approach.
  •  Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Willingness to work flexibly within community settings.
