A specialist secondary SEN provision in Pinner is seeking a committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support students with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). This is a rewarding opportunity to work with young people with complex needs, helping them develop key life skills, independence, and confidence.

About the Role

As a Secondary SLD Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SLD and additional needs
  • Support pupils with communication, engagement, and emotional regulation
  • Assist in delivering multi-sensory and personalised learning activities
  • Support students with daily routines, life skills, and independence
  • Provide personal care and mobility support where required
  • Work alongside teachers, therapists, and support staff to implement EHCP targets
  • Help maintain a structured, calm, and inclusive classroom environment

Requirements

  • Experience working with SLD or complex SEN needs
  • Confidence supporting personal care and physical needs
  • Understanding of sensory learning approaches and communication strategies
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Patient, resilient, and nurturing approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service – essential

Desirable

  • Experience supporting secondary-aged pupils
  • Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or AAC systems
  • Background in care, support work, or specialist education
