A specialist secondary SEN provision in Pinner is seeking a committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support students with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). This is a rewarding opportunity to work with young people with complex needs, helping them develop key life skills, independence, and confidence.
About the Role
As a Secondary SLD Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SLD and additional needs
- Support pupils with communication, engagement, and emotional regulation
- Assist in delivering multi-sensory and personalised learning activities
- Support students with daily routines, life skills, and independence
- Provide personal care and mobility support where required
- Work alongside teachers, therapists, and support staff to implement EHCP targets
- Help maintain a structured, calm, and inclusive classroom environment
Requirements
- Experience working with SLD or complex SEN needs
- Confidence supporting personal care and physical needs
- Understanding of sensory learning approaches and communication strategies
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Patient, resilient, and nurturing approach
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service – essential
Desirable
- Experience supporting secondary-aged pupils
- Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or AAC systems
- Background in care, support work, or specialist education
