About the Role
A specialist SEN provision in Slough is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with a range of additional needs within a nurturing, structured, and supportive learning environment.
The provision supports pupils with Autism (ASC), Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), speech and language needs, SEMH, and communication difficulties. You will work closely with teachers and therapists to help pupils access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their individual goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN
- Support learning activities and classroom engagement throughout the school day
- Assist pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and social development
- Support the implementation of EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff
- Encourage independence, confidence, and life skills development
- Use positive behaviour management strategies and communication tools to support learning
- Support pupils with personal care where required
- Contribute to a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN
- Child and Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
- Right to Work in the UK
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patient, caring, and resilient approach
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
- Commitment to supporting children with additional needs
Desirable:
- Experience within a specialist SEN school or provision
- Knowledge of ASC, MLD, SLD, SEMH, or speech and language needs
- Experience using PECS, Makaton, AAC, or sensory-based approaches
- Background in education, care, youth work, or support work
