About the Role

A specialist SEN provision in Slough is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with a range of additional needs within a nurturing, structured, and supportive learning environment.

The provision supports pupils with Autism (ASC), Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), speech and language needs, SEMH, and communication difficulties. You will work closely with teachers and therapists to help pupils access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their individual goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN
  • Support learning activities and classroom engagement throughout the school day
  • Assist pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and social development
  • Support the implementation of EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and life skills development
  • Use positive behaviour management strategies and communication tools to support learning
  • Support pupils with personal care where required
  • Contribute to a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN
  • Child and Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
  • Right to Work in the UK
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient, caring, and resilient approach
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Commitment to supporting children with additional needs

Desirable:

  • Experience within a specialist SEN school or provision
  • Knowledge of ASC, MLD, SLD, SEMH, or speech and language needs
  • Experience using PECS, Makaton, AAC, or sensory-based approaches
  • Background in education, care, youth work, or support work
