SEND & SEMH Lead - Construction Education Provision
Location: Gloucestershire
Salary: £35,000+ depending on experience
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week

An alternative education provider specialising in construction and vocational training is looking to appoint an experienced SEND & SEMH Lead to support young people aged 14+ with additional learning needs and social, emotional and mental health barriers.

This is a key leadership role focused on creating inclusive learning environments, supporting staff development, and ensuring learners receive high-quality, person-centred support throughout their educational journey.

The provision supports learners through vocational training, functional skills delivery, small class sizes, and tailored support programmes designed to re-engage young people who may not thrive in mainstream education settings.

The Role
The successful candidate will take strategic responsibility for SEND and SEMH provision across the organisation, ensuring learners receive appropriate support in line with EHCP requirements and the graduated approach.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading EHCP annual reviews and independence assessments
  • Liaising with Local Authorities and external agencies
  • Supporting teaching staff with inclusive learning strategies and interventions
  • Leading on SEMH and trauma-informed approaches across the provision
  • Monitoring learner progress, provision maps, and support plans
  • Delivering staff training, coaching, and mentoring
  • Supporting safeguarding, wellbeing, and positive behaviour strategies
  • Contributing to quality improvement, self-assessment, and inspection readiness

The role will also involve supporting operational management responsibilities when required to ensure the safe running of the provision.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Level 3 or above qualification in SEND or related area
  • Strong understanding of SEND Code of Practice and EHCP processes
  • Experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs
  • Experience leading annual reviews and multi-agency meetings
  • Experience mentoring and developing staff
  • Strong communication, organisational, and pastoral skills
  • Experience within alternative provision or specialist education settings is highly desirable

Desirable:

  • SENCO qualification
  • Mental Health First Aid or SEMH-related training
  • Experience supporting Ofsted or quality assurance processes
