Senior Design Manager
Borne Resourcing Limited
I'm working directly with a well-established London contractor who are looking to strengthen their Design Management team with the appointment of a Senior Design Manager.
This role would suit someone from either a Structural Engineering or Architectural background who enjoys complex refurbishment and structural alteration projects rather than straightforward new build schemes.
Initially, you'll be office-based supporting pre-construction activities, tenders and bid submissions. Upon project award, you'll transition onto site to lead the design process through delivery.
The Role
- Leading design management activities across commercial refurbishment and cut & carve projects
• Supporting tenders, bid submissions and client interviews
• Managing consultant teams, specialist subcontractors and technical design development
• Reviewing drawings, technical information and design deliverables
• Driving design coordination, buildability reviews and statutory compliance
• Supporting commercial teams with value engineering and change management
• Chairing design meetings and managing stakeholder communication
• Working closely with project delivery teams from pre-construction through to completion
Project Exposure
Current and recent projects include:
- £70m flagship commercial refurbishment combining major structural alterations with Cat A and Cat B fit-out
• £25m, 42,000 sq ft West End commercial refurbishment for a major institutional client
• Heavy structural reconfiguration projects involving façade removal, column strengthening, slab alterations, basement works and complex temporary works requirements
• Cat A and Cat B commercial fit-outs ranging from £2m–£60m+
What they're looking for
- Design Manager, Structural Design Manager, Structural Engineer or Technical Manager background
• Strong understanding of structural engineering and building construction
• Experience working on refurbishment, cut & carve or structural alteration projects
• Degree qualified in Structural Engineering or Architecture
• Strong technical, organisational and communication skills
• Comfortable presenting to clients and supporting work-winning activities
• Confident managing consultant teams and technical design development
• Someone who enjoys ownership, responsibility and client interaction
The Business
- Established London contractor
• Specialists in complex commercial refurbishment and fit-out projects
• Strong reputation for delivering technically challenging schemes
• Projects typically ranging from £2m–£60m+
• Long-standing client relationships with institutional and blue-chip occupiers
• Office-based culture with close collaboration between teams
• Flexible working considered but office and site presence expected
