Design Manager – Flagship Construction Project

A leading main contractor is seeking an experienced Design Manager to take a lead role on a flagship project in Bournemouth. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded business and oversee the design process from concept through to construction completion and handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the design process from concept through construction and project handover.
  • Review employer requirements, contract documentation, and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate architectural, structural, and MEP design disciplines.
  • Manage external consultants, specialist designers, and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure designs comply with all relevant regulations, standards, and planning conditions.
  • Drive the design programme in line with overall project milestones and delivery objectives.
  • Identify and mitigate design risks and technical challenges.
  • Chair design coordination meetings and lead client design presentations.
  • Ensure design solutions are buildable, commercially viable, and aligned with procurement strategies.
  • Manage design change control and technical approval processes.
  • Support value engineering initiatives and design optimisation opportunities.
  • Oversee the timely production of construction information and as-built documentation.

About You

  • Degree-qualified in Architecture or Architectural Technology.
  • ARB or RIBA membership is desirable but not essential.
  • 5–10+ years' experience in architectural design and/or design management within construction, building structures, or principal contractor environments.
  • Experience working on stadia projects would be highly advantageous, although not essential.
  • Strong technical understanding of building construction, detailing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Commercially aware with the ability to balance design quality, cost, and programme requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficient in industry-standard design and coordination software, including Revit, AutoCAD, Tekla, and BIM platforms.
