Job summary
This role qualifies for a 13% per annum recruitment and retention payment on top of the band 7 base salary.
We are seeking a Senior Developer to help build and support modern, cloud-based digital services for the NHS.
You will work on AWS hosted services, developing secure, scalable applications using technologies such as CloudFront, Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, EventBridge, Step Functions, OpenSearch, Neptune, DynamoDB, Aurora.
The role requires a broad understanding of data services, from relational databases to more semantic or knowledge based data models.
You will be a skilled practitioner in one of more modern languages, such as C# .Net, Javascript/Typescript, Python.
You will take a hands on role in delivery, contribute to technical decisions, and work closely with product, architecture and delivery colleagues.

Main duties of the job
- Develop and support applications built with AWS services.
- Design and develop RESTful APIs based on modern standards
- Work with a range of data services, including relational and semantic data
- Design and build secure, resilient and well monitored services
- Work collaboratively as part of an Agile, multidisciplinary delivery team
- Participating in code reviews, knowledge sharing and mentoring activities.
- Supporting live services and helping identify and resolve technical issues.
- Working with the wider Engineering Team to prototype, evaluate and integrate emerging technologies such as generative AI into secure, production level code.

Person Specification
- Practical experience building robust, secure applications using AWS technologies such as CloudFront, Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, EventBridge, Step Functions, OpenSearch, Neptune, DynamoDB, Aurora.
- Practical software development experience in at least one modern language, such as C# .Net, Javascript/Typescript, Python.
- Comprehensive ability to design and build APIs to standards such as OpenAPI.
- Skilled in working with Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform and CIoudFormation.
Desirable
- Practical experience with CI/CD Pipeline technologies such as Team City and Octopus Deploy
