The Role

This is a senior technical position for an experienced cable engineering professional who will act as the internal authority on high-voltage and extra-high-voltage underground cable systems up to 400kV AC. The successful candidate will lead cable design activity across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept development through to detailed design, installation support, commissioning input, and lifecycle assessment. You will provide expert guidance on areas such as thermal analysis, earthing, sheath bonding, route engineering, installation methodologies, and technical assurance, whilst also supporting client engagement and business growth. The role is central to maintaining engineering standards, influencing key technical decisions, and enhancing the organisation’s capability in HV/EHV cable systems.


Experience Required

  • Extensive experience in the design and analysis of HV/EHV underground cable systems within the UK electrical infrastructure environment, covering voltage levels up to 400kV AC.
  • Strong technical expertise in cable ratings, thermal modelling, bonding and earthing, system layout, and installation engineering.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex cable projects for transmission operators, distribution network operators, ICPs, or major EPC contractors.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant UK and international standards, including IEC, CENELEC, ENA and transmission-specific requirements, with the ability to apply these in practice.
  • Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with strong stakeholder communication skills; Chartered Engineer status and CDAE or LCDAE experience would be advantageous.
