Senior Mechanical Engineer

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be a key member of the Engineering Department, providing expertise in the design, manufacture, and repair of complex machinery.
The role will support the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions across a variety of projects, with a strong focus on advancing the organisation’s growth in renewable energy, particularly through the development of large Hydro Generators.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the mechanical design of machinery, including stators, rotors, assemblies, upgrades, and retrofit projects
- Provide engineering leadership across all project phases, working closely with clients and stakeholders
- Use simulation and modelling tools to validate performance and compliance with requirements
- Oversee and participate in testing activities, both in-factory and on-site
- Carry out diagnostics, condition analysis, and life-cycle evaluations, producing clear technical reports
- Deliver service and maintenance support to ensure reliability and long-term asset performance
- Partner with tendering and project management teams on bids, proposals, and execution
- Develop and implement test methodologies for dynamic machinery testing, analysing performance data
- Perform root cause analysis on machinery failures and recommend corrective actions
- Produce repair instructions and technical documentation to guide the recovery of failed or degraded equipment.
Your skills and experiences:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Experience in detailed design of rotating machinery such as motors, generators, turbines, pumps, or similar equipment
Strong expertise in mechanical design, simulation, and testing methodologies
Collaborate with CAD engineers and draughtsmen to review engineering drawings and support design and manufacturing processes
Proficient in diagnostics, failure analysis, and life assessment of machinery
Knowledge of manufacturing, commissioning, and service activities for large-scale equipment
Excellent problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach
Strong communication and leadership abilities, with experience mentoring junior engineers
