Snr Project Manager Responsible for £300m of works On Landmark HS2 Contact

Are you a Senior Project Manager with a track record delivering complex buildings and strong NEC contract experience? Are you ready to take responsibility for 5 Project Managers and the delivery of 7 Head Houses worth over £300m combined?

This is a standout opportunity to join High Speed Two Ltd and play a key role in delivering the £4.2bn London Main Works Civils Contract. You'll be responsible for delivering 7 Head Houses — large, complex buildings housing extensive MEP equipment and controls (ventilation, power, fans, lifts, and more).

With line management responsibility for 5 Project Managers and reporting to the Head of Delivery, you'll have considerable ownership and autonomy over the delivery of these Head Houses. You'll build strong working relationships with the principal contractor joint venture (Costain, Skanska, Strabag), collaboratively solving issues while challenging the JV with credibility and authority. You'll bring strong commercial acumen, a delivery-focused mindset, and a solid grounding in core project management practice (APM framework).

The Project

The £4.2bn London Tunnels contract covers 13 miles of twin-bore tunnels (26 miles total) between West Ruislip and Euston. A Head House is the above-ground structure built over a tunnel ventilation shaft, housing critical fire control, ventilation and electrical systems for the tunnels below, while providing safe access and egress points for emergency services and maintenance crews.

The Role

Working directly for High Speed Two Ltd, you'll be a senior member of the project management team, reporting to the Head of Delivery. You'll manage a team of 5 Project Managers and take ownership of the delivery of 7 Head Houses with a combined value in excess of £300m.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Act as the NEC3 Project Manager on behalf of the Client
  • Support the Client and lead other Project Managers in running construction contracts within the team
  • Set up and oversee consistent contract management, identifying and resolving wider systemic issues
  • Manage and monitor contract performance
  • Review and approve programme schedules
  • Proactively manage project risks and help mitigate wider HS2 programme risks
  • Carry out CDM duties as delegated by the Client Representative
  • Act as the link between the project team and other HS2 staff for client-retained third-party works
  • Help build a collaborative culture that encourages innovation and knowledge-sharing across teams and the supply chain

Role Requirements

  • Proven project management experience in infrastructure, civils, or buildings, with delivery of complex buildings with substantial MEP elements — e.g. rail stations, airports, data centres, plant rooms, substations, control rooms, head houses
  • Strong commercial awareness, including a solid working knowledge of NEC3 or NEC4 contracts and understanding of contract management, change control and cost awareness
  • Strong programme and commercial awareness alongside core APM framework skills
  • Experience managing complex contractor and stakeholder relationships
  • Able to commute to North Acton, with site attendance typically 4 days a week (5 if required).
  • A relevant qualification (e.g. civils, APM) is desirable but not essential — open to candidates with the right experience.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team on a high-profile programme, offering long-term career development and the chance to shape and influence a major UK infrastructure project. After the c.4-year Main Works Civils Contract, there will be opportunities to move onto further projects, including Euston Station or Old Oak Common Station (c.10-year duration).
