Our client, a leading engineering and design consultancy, is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Plymouth.

The team is looking for a well-rounded Senior Quantity Surveyor with both pre- and post-contract experience across infrastructure projects. Exposure to one or more of the following sectors would be beneficial:

  • Highways (national or local transport)
  • Rail
  • Energy (including nuclear, renewables, or carbon capture)
  • Utilities (water, telecoms, etc.)
  • Defence
  • Aviation

You won’t be expected to have expertise in every area, but a strong foundation in quantity surveying and a drive to develop further within complex infrastructure is key. This role offers the chance to add real value through commercial insight, best practice, and problem-solving across a diverse project portfolio.

Key Responsibilities of Senior Quantity Surveyor:

  • Manage commercial aspects of infrastructure projects across both pre- and post-contract stages
  • Administer contracts, particularly under NEC forms, ensuring compliance and effective change management
  • Support procurement processes, including preparation and evaluation of tender documentation (ITT)
  • Monitor project costs, forecasts, and risks, ensuring robust financial control and reporting
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery
  • Contribute to value engineering and the development of innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions
  • Lead or support on project delivery, including mentoring and developing junior team members
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, with opportunities to contribute to wider business development activities

Experience Required for Senior Quantity Surveyor:

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline
  • Working towards, or already holding, professional chartership (e.g. RICS or equivalent)
  • Experience administering NEC contracts and commercially managing infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of standard methods of measurement, including Highways and CESMM
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes and tender documentation (including ITT preparation)
  • Good grasp of construction techniques and modern delivery methods
  • Ability to manage projects with a degree of autonomy
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools
  • Strong communication skills, with experience working across multiple teams and stakeholders
  • Interest in mentoring, client engagement, and contributing to business growth
