Overview
We are recruiting on behalf of a client seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to play a pivotal role in supporting commercial delivery across large-scale infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on energy schemes. This opportunity is primarily site-based in the Cambridgeshire area, with occasional visits to a nearby office location.
The successful Senior Quantity Surveyor will be instrumental in ensuring that project costs, forecasts, and contractual processes are managed effectively, contributing directly to successful project execution.

Position Summary
This role requires a commercially aware Senior Quantity Surveyor who can contribute to tender preparation and project delivery by ensuring cost plans are accurate, realistic, and aligned with operational capability. You will be heavily involved throughout the project lifecycle, from procurement through to final account.
Experience within renewable energy environments such as solar or battery storage projects would be advantageous.

Key Duties
  • Review contract documentation to identify commercial risks, mitigation strategies, and potential opportunities
  • Provide guidance on contractual matters including variations, claims, and change control processes
  • Act as the main commercial contact for project teams, offering ongoing support and advice
  • Support the creation of tender submissions, cost plans, bills of quantities, and associated documents
  • Monitor design and scope changes, ensuring budgets are updated through accurate forecasting
  • Lead procurement activities, including sourcing and appointing subcontractors and suppliers
  • Maintain clear visibility of rates, costs, and recoverable items to ensure full transparency
  • Interpret construction drawings and understand methodologies to support cost validation
  • Work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure delivery remains within agreed financial parameters
  • Produce and manage financial reports including CVR, profit and loss, and work in progress
  • Take ownership of cost tracking, reporting, and financial governance across projects
  • Conduct risk and opportunity assessments to support commercial decision-making
  • Contribute to project close-out processes, including lessons learned and performance reviews
Skills & Experience The ideal Senior Quantity Surveyor will demonstrate:
  • Strong capability in managing multiple projects or tenders simultaneously
  • Excellent commercial judgement with the ability to analyse costs and maximise value
  • Solid understanding of contracts, including key terminology and obligations
  • Advanced numerical and analytical skills, with high proficiency in Excel
  • Effective organisational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Confidence in client-facing situations, with excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to make decisions under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail and a results-driven approach
  • Leadership qualities, including the ability to guide and support team members
Qualifications
Candidates for the Senior Quantity Surveyor position should ideally hold:
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline
    or
  • A postgraduate qualification accredited by a recognised professional body such as RICS
