The Role

We're looking for an experienced Senior Residential Support Worker to join a children's residential home, supporting the management team in leading day-to-day shift operations and delivering high-quality care to young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties.

This is a step up from a standard support worker role. You'll be leading and mentoring a team, holding supervisory responsibilities, and playing a key part in ensuring the home meets the highest standards of care in line with the Children's Homes Regulations 2015.

If you're ready to take that next step in your career and you're passionate about making a real difference to young people's lives, this is the role for you.

What You'll Be Doing

Leadership and shift management:

  • Plan, lead and manage shifts, acting as a positive role model for colleagues and young people alike
  • Supervise and mentor support workers, supporting their professional development and induction
  • Support the Registered Manager and step up in the Deputy Manager's absence
  • Ensure rotas are maintained and shift cover is always in place
  • Complete on call duties as required (depending on experience)

Care and safeguarding:

  • Keep safeguarding at the heart of every decision and uphold child protection procedures at all times
  • Undertake direct care with young people as required, including keyworking sessions
  • Write and update placement plans, health plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans
  • Administer medication when trained and authorised to do so
  • Attend meetings and advocate for young people as needed

Records, compliance and environment:

  • Ensure all record keeping, daily checks and audits are completed to a high standard and within timescales
  • Maintain the home environment to a high standard, including household tasks, maintenance reporting and health and safety
  • Ensure all policies, procedures and legislation are implemented and followed by yourself and the team

Relationships:

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with local authorities, education providers, families and other professionals
  • Promote effective communication between the team, young people, their families and external stakeholders

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Relevant Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in children and young people's services
  • Experience working with children and young people, including managing challenging behaviours
  • Proven ability to lead, prioritise and manage a team
  • Strong written skills for documentation and record keeping
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Good time management and communication skills

Desirable:

  • Minimum 12 months' experience in a children's residential setting
  • Experience coaching, mentoring or supporting the induction of new colleagues
  • Flexibility around shift patterns
  • Strong IT skills and problem-solving ability
