Location: Sellafield, Cumbria

Salary: Circa £65,000 - £75,000 per annum DOE

Car Allowance: £5,060 per annum

Hours: 40 hours per week

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Site Engineer to join a major infrastructure project within the UK Nuclear sector.

Reporting to the Works Manager, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating all engineering and construction activities within your designated area of responsibility, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and to the highest quality standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional looking to play a key role on a complex, technically challenging project within a highly regulated environment. You will provide technical leadership to site teams, coordinate subcontractors and stakeholders, and ensure compliance with all project, contractual and regulatory requirements.

Please note: Due to the nature of the project, previous Nuclear industry experience is essential. Candidates must either hold current SC Clearance or be eligible to obtain Security Clearance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Delivery & Site Coordination
  • Manage and coordinate all construction and engineering activities within your area of responsibility.
  • Lead, mentor and support junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and third-party stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient delivery of works.
  • Plan and manage site activities in conjunction with construction and supervision teams.
  • Produce and maintain detailed rolling three-week look-ahead programmes.
  • Monitor progress against programme and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Identify risks, constraints and opportunities that may impact project delivery.
  • Ensure all permits, task briefings, inductions and approvals are in place before works commence.
  • Support collaborative working across all project functions.
Engineering & Technical Management
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Raise and manage Technical Queries (TQs) to resolve design issues or incomplete information.
  • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and project requirements.
  • Maintain detailed technical knowledge of your area of responsibility.
  • Provide engineering support to construction teams and subcontractors.
  • Support the development and implementation of temporary works solutions.
  • Ensure temporary works are installed, maintained and dismantled in accordance with approved designs and procedures.
Commercial & Resource Management
  • Identify material requirements and coordinate procurement activities.
  • Monitor stock levels and arrange replenishment to support planned works.
  • Record actual material and resource usage against planned allocations.
  • Identify wastage, inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain awareness of subcontractor scopes of work and monitor performance.
  • Identify and report changes, delays and variations to project and commercial teams.
Quality Assurance
  • Produce, manage and gain approval for Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Ensure all quality documentation and construction records are maintained accurately.
  • Monitor compliance with project specifications and quality requirements.
  • Raise and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) where required.
  • Support audits, inspections and assurance activities.
  • Promote a right-first-time culture across all site activities.
Health, Safety & Environmental Management
  • Promote the highest standards of health, safety and environmental performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, project procedures and company policies.
  • Report and investigate incidents, near misses and non-conformances.
  • Support risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
  • Ensure all personnel work in accordance with approved procedures and permits.
  • Actively contribute to a positive safety culture throughout the project.
Reporting & Documentation
  • Maintain accurate records of progress, resources, changes and site issues.
  • Contribute to project reporting and performance reviews.
  • Ensure project records are maintained within document control systems.
  • Provide progress updates to project management and commercial teams.
  • Support the preparation of project reports and performance data.
Candidate Requirements Essential
  • Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience as a Site Engineer or Senior Site Engineer on major construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Previous experience within the Nuclear sector is essential.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies and engineering principles.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multiple work fronts.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance procedures, inspection regimes and compliance requirements.
  • Strong planning, organisational and communication skills.
  • Experience producing engineering documentation and project records.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Ability to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).
Desirable
  • Current SC Clearance.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional accreditation.
  • SMSTS qualification.
  • Temporary Works Coordinator or Temporary Works Supervisor training.
  • CSCS Card.
  • Experience on major nuclear new-build, decommissioning or defence projects.
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts.
  • Experience working within highly regulated environments.
