Senior Traffic Engineer

A London local authority in North London is seeking an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to join its Traffic & Engineering Service on a contract basis. This role offers the opportunity to work on high‑profile transport and public realm programmes within a busy borough environment.

You will provide a specialist professional traffic engineering service, taking schemes from feasibility through to detailed design and implementation. You will also supervise junior staff and provide professional and technical support across a varied programme of works.

• Deliver traffic engineering schemes from feasibility and consultation through to implementation
• Produce detailed designs using AutoCAD
• Act as technical lead on allocated projects
• Supervise and mentor junior engineering staff
• Provide professional and technical advice across the service
• Liaise with internal stakeholders, contractors, and external consultants

• Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs)
• Bus priority and cycling improvement schemes
• Road safety initiatives
• Parking and kerbside management improvements

• Demonstrable experience working within a local authority
• Strong background in traffic engineering and scheme delivery
• Proficient in AutoCAD
• Experience supervising or supporting junior staff
• Comfortable managing multiple schemes in a fast‑paced public sector setting
