Salary: £52,000 - £53,000 + on‑call allowance (~£3,000) + overtime
Working Pattern: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm (37.5 hours per week)
Holidays: 33 days inclusive of bank holidays

Purpose of the Role

To manage and optimise all utilities operations - including industrial boilers, energy back‑up systems, water treatment, cooling towers, compressors and nitrogen - ensuring they are operated safely, reliably and efficiently, while remaining fully compliant with PSSR, SEPA, HASWA and ACOP L8 (Legionella) requirements.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Utilities Technician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our utility systems. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting daily maintenance checks on utilities, including boilers, cooling towers, chillers, air compressors, and nitrogen systems.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to enhance reliability, safety, and efficiency.
  • Overseeing projects from start to finish, taking full ownership and accountability for their success.
  • Monitoring, trending, and reporting on utility performance to proactively address potential issues.
  • Developing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all utility systems.
  • Ensuring compliance with strict safety and environmental regulations, including PSSR, SEPA, and ACOP L8 Legionella standards.
  • Managing service providers and ensuring clear scopes and contracts are in place.
  • Planning and coordinating labor and resources effectively to meet operational demands.
Day-to-Day

Your day will be varied and engaging, with responsibilities including:

  • Collaborating with the team to plan and execute maintenance tasks.
  • Conducting routine inspections and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Leading and managing projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Working closely with service providers to maintain compliance and optimize performance.
  • Providing training and support to operational and maintenance personnel.
  • Reporting directly to the Mechanical Team Leader and working alongside a dedicated and supportive team.
Qualifications

To excel in this role, you'll need:

  • Essential: 5-10 years of hands-on experience with industrial boilers in the oil, gas, or chemical industry.
  • Essential: BOAS certification or willingness to achieve it.
  • Essential: Strong knowledge of water treatment systems, testing, and chemical dosing.
  • Desirable: Experience with cooling towers, compressors, and CAPEX projects.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with CMMS systems (e.g., Ultimo) and critical spares management.
  • A recognized engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
  • IOSH/NEBOSH certification in workplace safety (preferred).
