Peregrine

Service Designer

Permanent | Hybrid, Croydon | Home Office | SC cleared

We are seeking a Service Designer to join Peregrine, supporting the Home Office on the Goods X-Ray Scanning Transformation (GXRST) Programme - a flagship initiative to modernise the UK’s border screening capabilities.

As a Service Designer, you will play a key role in improving complex operational and digital services, delivering end to end service design within a challenging and evolving environment.

You will focus on creating seamless, user centred services that balance critical national security requirements with the efficient and legitimate movement of people and goods.

Responsibilities:

As a Service Designer, you will work with minimal support while influencing direction and mentoring others. You will be responsible for shaping design concepts, contributing to complex services and embedding best practice across teams. Your key responsibilities include the following:

æ Develop service design concepts with service managers and programme leaders

æ Lead or contribute across complex, end to end services - both operational change and technical projects

æ Use evidence and user insight to inform key design decisions

æ Streamlining end-to-end user journeys for both frontline staff (e.g., border officers and caseworkers) and citizens.

æ Collaborate across teams and engage stakeholders in different operational settings

æ Occasionally travel to alternative sites, including operational locations

Skills & Experience:

æ Strong end to end service design experience within complex, multi stakeholder environments

æ Proven experience working within Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and frameworks

æ Hands on delivery across GDS agile lifecycle, particularly Beta and Live services

æ Ability to use research and data to inform design decisions and shape service outcomes

æ Experience designing inclusive, accessible services in line with accessibility standards

æ Confident communicating complex ideas clearly to both technical and non technical stakeholders

æ Strong stakeholder management skills, with ability to influence and challenge constructively

æ Experience working in multidisciplinary teams including product, delivery and policy

æ Ability to apply iterative design approaches, including prototyping and continuous improvement

æ Experience leading or mentoring others and promoting user centred design best practice

Desirable skills:

æ Experience designing services within border, customs or goods movement environments, ideally with exposure to Border Force

æ Active SC clearance would be preferred but you must be eligible for SC clearance to be considered.
