Overview

Copius Group is recruiting an experienced Setting Out Engineer to join a major hyperscale data centre project in Iceland. This is a fast-paced, technically demanding environment where precision and accuracy are critical to successful project delivery.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all setting out activities on-site, ensuring that works are delivered in line with design specifications, tolerances, and programme requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out all setting out duties for civil, structural, and associated works
  • Establish and maintain site control points and benchmarks
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and digital models
  • Ensure all setting out is completed accurately and in line with project tolerances
  • Liaise with site management, subcontractors, and design teams to coordinate works
  • Provide technical guidance to site teams regarding levels, alignment, and positioning
  • Conduct regular checks and validations to ensure accuracy of works
  • Maintain detailed and accurate survey records and as-built data
  • Support QA/QC processes, including inspections and documentation
  • Identify and report discrepancies between design and site conditions
  • Assist in resolving technical issues and responding to RFIs
  • Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with HSE requirements
  • Support handover documentation, including as-built drawings and records

Essential requirements 

  • Proven experience as a Setting Out Engineer on large-scale construction or civil engineering projects
  • Proficiency with surveying equipment (e.g. total stations, GPS, laser levels)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong understanding of site control, levelling, and dimensional accuracy
  • Experience working in fast-track construction environments
  • Good knowledge of QA/QC procedures and documentation
  • Fluent English (written and spoken)

Desirable

  • Experience on data centre or mission-critical projects
  • Engineering or surveying qualification
  • Experience working in Nordic or remote locations
  • Familiarity with digital surveying tools and BIM models
  • Experience producing as-built drawings and records
