Overview
Copius Group is recruiting an experienced Setting Out Engineer to join a major hyperscale data centre project in Iceland. This is a fast-paced, technically demanding environment where precision and accuracy are critical to successful project delivery.
The successful candidate will be responsible for all setting out activities on-site, ensuring that works are delivered in line with design specifications, tolerances, and programme requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out all setting out duties for civil, structural, and associated works
- Establish and maintain site control points and benchmarks
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and digital models
- Ensure all setting out is completed accurately and in line with project tolerances
- Liaise with site management, subcontractors, and design teams to coordinate works
- Provide technical guidance to site teams regarding levels, alignment, and positioning
- Conduct regular checks and validations to ensure accuracy of works
- Maintain detailed and accurate survey records and as-built data
- Support QA/QC processes, including inspections and documentation
- Identify and report discrepancies between design and site conditions
- Assist in resolving technical issues and responding to RFIs
- Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with HSE requirements
- Support handover documentation, including as-built drawings and records
Essential requirements
- Proven experience as a Setting Out Engineer on large-scale construction or civil engineering projects
- Proficiency with surveying equipment (e.g. total stations, GPS, laser levels)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Strong understanding of site control, levelling, and dimensional accuracy
- Experience working in fast-track construction environments
- Good knowledge of QA/QC procedures and documentation
- Fluent English (written and spoken)
Desirable
- Experience on data centre or mission-critical projects
- Engineering or surveying qualification
- Experience working in Nordic or remote locations
- Familiarity with digital surveying tools and BIM models
- Experience producing as-built drawings and records
