Tradewind Recruitment is currently working with a welcoming and inclusive school in Oldham that is looking to appoint a committed Special Needs Teaching Assistant to support four pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviour, including two non-verbal students.
This rewarding full-time role offers the opportunity to make a real impact by helping pupils successfully transition from part-time to full-time education within a supportive and structured environment.
The Role
As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with a range of additional needs
- Support the delivery of personalised learning and behaviour strategies
- Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals to implement tailored support plans
- Help create a calm, safe, and engaging classroom environment
- Encourage pupils' social, emotional, and academic development
- Build positive relationships that promote confidence, independence, and participation in learning
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Previous experience supporting children with SEN and/or challenging behaviour
- Confidence working with non-verbal pupils
- Knowledge of communication methods such as PECS or Makaton (desirable)
- Strong behaviour management skills and a patient, consistent approach
- A compassionate, resilient, and adaptable attitude
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
