Key Responsibilities
Operate the crane: Set up and operate spider/mini cranes using remote control or cab controls
Lift planning: Check lift plans, risk assessments, and method statements before each lift
Pre-use checks: Inspect crane, outriggers, tracks, and lifting gear for defects before use
Load handling: Sling and lift loads safely, working with slingers/signallers using standard signals
Site safety: Maintain exclusion zones, watch for overhead obstructions, and ensure ground stability
Maintenance: Report faults, keep basic maintenance logs, keep the crane clean
Compliance: Follow LOLER 1998, PUWER, and company safety rules
Requirements – UK 2026
Qualifications: CPCS A77 Crane Operator – Mini Crawler Cranes, or NPORS N418. CPCS blue card preferred for site work
Experience: 1-3 years operating spider cranes. Experience with glass lifting, glazing, and tight access work is a plus
Tickets: CSCS card, IPAF/PASMA if working at height, First Aid is a bonus
Knowledge: Safe load indicators, load charts, slinging basics, site rules
Skills: Good hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, communication, works well under pressure
Typical Day
Morning: Check crane, complete pre-start checks, attend site briefings
Work: Position crane, set outriggers, carry out lifts for steel, glass, M&E, or landscaping
End of shift: Park crane safely, complete paperwork, report any issues
