KS1 Teaching Assistant

Academics is a dedicated education recruitment agency currently seeking a committed, dependable Teaching Assistant to join a Key Stage 1 classroom in a friendly and positive primary school located in the northern part of Newport. The school offers a nurturing environment where young learners are encouraged to grow in confidence and develop a positive attitude towards learning.

This is a full-time, temporary position suited to someone who is enthusiastic about supporting children in their early education journey and enjoys making a meaningful impact in a KS1 setting.

Classroom Support Responsibilities:

• Support pupils in KS1 with everyday classroom learning activities and structured tasks
• Work closely with the class teacher to deliver small group sessions and targeted interventions
• Help maintain pupil focus, engagement, and positive behaviour throughout the school day
• Provide flexible general classroom support as required
• Work Monday to Friday, with a start date expected from September 2026 or earlier, depending on availability

Candidate Requirements:

• An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for one
• Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
• Previous experience working with children, ideally within a school environment
• A solid understanding of primary education, particularly Key Stage 1
• Strong written and spoken English skills
• A patient, encouraging, and positive approach to supporting learning
• The ability to work collaboratively and follow classroom direction effectively
