Hours: Monday to Friday, Full-Time

Reeson Education is recruiting an experienced and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Greater Manchester. This is a fantastic long-term opportunity for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide consistent 1:1 support for a KS2 pupil with challenging behaviour, emotional needs, and additional SEND requirements.

The successful SEMH Teaching Assistant will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider pastoral team to provide tailored support that enables the pupil to access learning, regulate emotions and achieve positive outcomes both academically and socially.

This SEMH Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone who understands that behaviour is a form of communication and can build strong, trusting relationships while maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations.



SEMH Teaching Assistant - Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support as an SEMH Teaching Assistant for a KS2 pupil with SEMH needs.
  • Support the pupil both inside and outside the classroom as an SEMH Teaching Assistant.
  • Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies as an SEMH Teaching Assistant.
  • Encourage emotional regulation, resilience and confidence.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the individual needs of the pupil.
  • Work alongside teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff to implement support plans.
  • Deliver interventions and structured activities that promote engagement.
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Promote independence, social skills and positive interactions.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and contribute to pupil progress reviews.


SEMH Teaching Assistant - Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a SEMH Teaching Assistant, Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant.
  • Experience supporting children with SEMH, ASD, ADHD or challenging behaviour.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to remain positive and consistent in challenging situations.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
