Our client, a leading provider of facilities services in the UK, is seeking a Technical Assistant to support building services operations at a base location, delivering routine pre-planned maintenance and first-line response to mechanical and electrical failures.

Job Overview

This role focuses on supporting day-to-day building services operations, ensuring that mechanical and electrical systems are maintained in line with agreed programmes and timescales. The Technical Assistant will carry out routine planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and respond to minor reactive faults to help ensure the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the site.

In addition to technical duties, the role supports the on-site Facilities Management team in delivering an integrated service to the customer. This is a highly client-facing position requiring flexibility, strong communication skills and a willingness to undertake a wide variety of tasks as directed by the Facilities Manager or Regional Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all statutory regulations and health & safety requirements
  • Carry out routine PPM and minor reactive mechanical and electrical maintenance
  • Provide first-line response to equipment failures and building services faults
  • Work on fan coil units, air handling units, lighting, small power and minor plumbing faults
  • Assist with site-based installation activities and minor project works
  • Complete maintenance job sheets, service reports and site logbooks accurately
  • Adhere to Service Level Agreements and planned work schedules
  • Support the supervision of subcontractors and maintain plant room housekeeping
  • Operate site access-to-work systems and report any health & safety breaches

Person Specification

  • Ideally experienced in a commercial building services or facilities management environment
  • Comfortable undertaking a wide range of tasks, from maintenance work to ad-hoc client requests
  • Strong client-facing skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
  • Competent PC user with a working knowledge of Windows, MS Word and Excel
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including email use
  • Able to follow internal reporting procedures for timesheets, expenses and documentation
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
  • Committed, motivated and enthusiastic team player
