Transport Manager

Streamline Services Consultancy Limited

Streamline Recruitment are thrilled to announce that we are partnering with a well-established Global Logistics company who are looking to appoint an experienced Transport Manager to take ownership of a large-scale transport function based in Whitchurch. You will be responsible for driving operational performance, improving engagement across the driver workforce, strengthening relationships with subcontractors, and leading key process improvements across the transport division.

This role would suit someone from a 3PL, food logistics, retail distribution, or cold storage environment who has experience managing sizeable fleet in a fast paced environment.

You’ll oversee a fleet of around 60 vehicles and 120 trailers, managing a transport team of approximately 12 across planning, coordination, and compliance, alongside responsibility for 70–80 drivers.

The business is currently progressing through a Transport Management System rollout, with go-live planned for September, so previous exposure to systems implementation or operational transformation projects would be highly advantageous.

The Role

You will take full responsibility for the day-to-day and strategic management of the transport operation, ensuring compliance, efficiency, service delivery, and commercial performance are consistently achieved.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-disciplinary transport team including planners, coordinators, compliance specialists, and drivers
  • Drive improvements in driver engagement, retention, and overall workforce experience across the operation
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with third-party hauliers and key subcontractor partners to enhance service delivery
  • Continuously review, challenge, and optimise transport processes to improve efficiency, cost control, and service performance
  • Support and oversee the implementation and successful rollout of a new Transport Management System (TMS)
  • Full accountability for transport P&L performance, including budgeting, cost control, and financial delivery across the operation
  • Take ownership of fleet utilisation and key operational performance indicators to drive efficiency and service standards
  • Ensure full adherence to DVSA legislation, O-Licence requirements, and all relevant transport compliance standards
  • Work closely with senior leadership to support strategic planning, operational improvement, and continuous development initiatives
  • Oversee incident management, investigations, and ongoing compliance governance across the transport function
  • Foster and embed a high-performance culture built on accountability, clear communication, and operational excellence

Experience Required

  • Proven experience managing medium-to-large transport operations
  • Background within 3PL, retail logistics, food distribution, or cold chain logistics
  • Experience managing Class 1 fleets and large driver teams
  • Strong understanding of transport compliance and fleet operations
  • Experience improving operational processes and performance
  • Confident stakeholder management and leadership capability
  • Exposure to TMS implementation or transport transformation projects
  • CPC National & International required
