Waste Collection Loader

We are looking for motivated and reliable Waste Collection Loaders to join a busy Refuse and Cleansing operation. This is a physically active, outdoor role where you'll play a key part in delivering refuse, recycling, food waste and green waste collections to local residents.
Working as part of a collection crew, you'll help maintain a clean environment while contributing towards ambitious recycling and sustainability targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect refuse, recycling, food waste and green waste from residential properties.
- Safely load waste into collection vehicles using approved working practices.
- Return bins and containers to the correct collection points.
- Assist drivers with vehicle cleanliness, maintenance checks and unloading activities.
- Act as a reversing assistant to ensure vehicle movements are carried out safely.
- Clear any spillages and maintain a clean working environment.
- Complete daily collection records and basic paperwork accurately.
- Provide excellent customer service and advice on waste and recycling matters.
- Support community initiatives, environmental campaigns and local events when required.
What We're Looking For
- Experience working in a customer-facing or public service environment.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Awareness of health and safety practices, particularly manual handling.
- Physically fit and capable of walking long distances and carrying out repetitive lifting duties.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends, bank holidays and overtime when required.
- Commitment to delivering a reliable frontline service.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience within waste collection, recycling, cleansing, environmental services, grounds maintenance, logistics or manual outdoor work.
- Experience working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Experience driving or maintaining vehicles.
Working Environment
This is a physically demanding outdoor role involving:
- Working in all weather conditions.
- Walking several miles each day.
- Collecting waste from up to 2,000 properties per shift.
- Manual handling, lifting and carrying.
- Early starts, weekend working and occasional overtime.
