Our client, a leading provider of facilities services in the UK, is seeking a Waste Manager to lead and oversee waste management services across a busy healthcare estate.
Job Overview
The Waste Manager is responsible for managing all waste-related activities across a large acute healthcare site and associated community locations. The role has a strong focus on compliance, service optimisation and sustainability, working closely with operational teams and healthcare stakeholders to improve waste performance and recycling outcomes.
This position involves a hands-on approach, including regular audit activity, waste data analysis and delivery of staff education. The Waste Manager will play a key role in supporting organisational sustainability targets while ensuring waste services operate safely, efficiently and in line with healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the waste audit programme, including data collection and reporting
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation
- Oversee duty of care documentation for all waste streams
- Develop and deliver waste compliance and segregation training to staff
- Support operational teams with planned and ad hoc waste movements
- Analyse waste data to identify risks, trends and opportunities for improvement
- Liaise with central teams to optimise waste collection schedules
- Promote best practice waste segregation across wards and departments
Person Specification
- Strong knowledge of healthcare waste management standards
- Good understanding of HTM 07-01 and duty of care requirements
- Ability to interpret waste data and audit findings
- Experience delivering training or staff engagement sessions
- Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management skills
- Membership of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management
- Proactive approach to service improvement
- Ability to work independently across multiple sites
