Job Title: Welding and Quality Inspector
Reporting To:
Job Purpose Summary: A Welding Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all welding and fabrication activities are completed safely, accurately, and in full compliance with client specifications, industry standards, and company quality requirements. The role involves monitoring of inspections, identifying and resolving non-conformities to ensure the integrity and reliability of manufactured products. The Welding Inspector also supports continuous improvement initiatives, promotes a strong quality and safety culture, and works collaboratively with internal teams, customers, and regulatory bodies to achieve high standards of operational and quality performance.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough visual and dimensional inspections of welds and fabricated components to ensure compliance with industry and project standards.
Prepare and control welding and manufacturing documentation, specifications, and quality records.
Oversee welder testing, qualifications, and implementation of inspection and test plans.
Monitor interpass temperatures, heat input checks and dimensional accuracy.
Identify and record non-conformities, managing rectifications and retesting where required.
Coordinate non-destructive testing (NDT) internally.
Audit welding processes and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Establish and maintain relationships with Management Teams, Quality representatives and other functions across the business.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders (e.g. customers, regulatory bodies, external auditors, inspectors) to ensure successful and effective delivery of quality requirements.
Create and implement ITPS for each project in the facility.
Manage completion of QC documents (e.g ITPS, inspection check sheets, inspections reports etc) and ensure records are retained.
Where required for regulated projects manage the verification of lifetime quality records (LTQRS)
Manage the control of monitoring and measuring equipment for facility.
Ensure compliance with client requirements, specifications and standards to maintain quality standards and integrity of products.
Manage compliance with company policies, processes and procedures.
Work alongside our Compliance, H&S Manager and offer support with non-conformity reports (NCRS) for the facility including completing NCRS using problems solving tools and root cause analysis, managing implementation of improvement actions, data analysis and reporting.
Provide support when required with supply chain audit. (i.e sublet matter expert)
Act as a role model to encourage the developing and positive quality culture.
Inspect galvanised and powder-coated products supplied by external providers to verify finish quality, coating coverage, damage, and compliance with customer requirements.

Qualification & Skills Required:
- CSWIP 3.1 or 3.2 / PCN Level 2 Welding Inspector.
- PCN Level 2 Visual Testing.
- PCN Level 2 Magnetic Particle Inspection.
- Understanding of welding techniques, materials, coating and industry standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency with inspection tools and equipment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to safety and quality excellence.
- IT proficiency (Microsoft Word & Excel)
- Additional PCN & Inspection qualifications may be considered
- Experience working with BS EN 1090
Coatings / Finishing Awareness
For galvanising and powder coating inspection:
- BGAS-CSWIP Painting Inspector Basic or Level 1/2
- ICorr Institute of Corrosion Level 1 Coating Inspector
- Powder coating inspection training (often manufacturer-based courses)
- Hot-dip galvanising awareness training (Galvanisers Association UK courses)
