Are you an experienced Youth Justice professional looking to make a real difference in the lives of young people? We are currently recruiting for a dedicated Youth Justice Officer to join a well-established and multi-disciplinary Youth Offending Service based in Cambridge.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a supportive service focused on preventing and reducing offending behaviour amongst young people entering the criminal justice system.
The Role
This is a hybrid position requiring attendance in the office 1 day per week, with the remainder of the role carried out remotely and within the community.
It would be necessary to undertake significant travel across parts of the county as part of the role, particularly for home visits.
The successful candidate will work with young offenders ranging from those who have not yet reached the court system through to those serving custodial sentences. The role involves managing a complex caseload of community and custodial sentences, ensuring effective assessment, intervention planning, review and risk management.
Working closely with a wide range of professionals and partner agencies, you will play a key role in helping young people make positive changes and reduce offending behaviour.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complex youth justice caseloads
- Undertake assessments and risk management planning
- Prepare court reports and panel reports
- Work directly with young offenders and their families
- Deliver targeted interventions and support plans
- Liaise with courts, probation, police, education, health and social care services
- Work collaboratively with substance misuse, psychology, accommodation, victims, education, training and employment teams
- Promote safeguarding and positive outcomes for vulnerable young people
- Represent the Youth Offending Service professionally at meetings and court proceedings
Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A qualification at Diploma level or above in a relevant subject such as:
- Social Work
- Youth Work
- Probation
- Criminology or related discipline
- Previous experience working within Youth Justice / Youth Offending Services
- Experience working with offenders, courts, risk assessments, report writing and partner agencies
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Ability to manage challenging and complex caseloads
- An Enhanced DBS Check for both Children and Adults
- DBS registered on the Update Service
