Role Purpose
Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Assembly Technician is responsible for ensuring that traction motor investigations, repairs, overhauls, and root cause analyses are completed efficiently, safely, cost-effectively, and to the required quality standards. The role supports the delivery of customer orders by maintaining high standards of workmanship, productivity, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Product Assembly & Service
- Disassemble and reassemble traction motors and associated components in accordance with work order instructions and engineering requirements.
- Perform mechanical and electrical overhauls, including disassembly, inspection, repair, and assembly activities.
- Conduct detailed inspections of motor components, including stators, rotors, bearings, and castings.
- Carry out fault finding, failure investigations, and root cause analysis of manufacturing, material, or operational defects.
- Undertake repairs and corrective actions to restore products to required operational standards.
- Achieve productivity, efficiency, and utilisation targets in line with build times and capacity plans.
- Ensure all work is completed to the required quality and customer specifications.

- Implement and maintain safe systems of work and controls within the designated area.
- Comply with all company Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental (HSQE) policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in behavioural safety initiatives and promote a positive safety culture.

- Participate actively in continuous improvement programmes and implement agreed improvements.
- Support the development and optimisation of cross-functional and departmental processes.
- Contribute to production meetings and improvement discussions as required.
- Adhere to company and industry quality standards and procedures.
- Accurately complete quality documentation, checklists, and inspection records.
- Identify, communicate, and escalate quality issues promptly.
- Ensure all quality processes are consistently followed and maintained.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Experience working within a production, assembly, manufacturing, or engineering environment.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Understanding of engineering principles and assembly processes.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office and general IT systems.
- Willingness to travel and work outside normal hours where required for business needs or training.
Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification.
- Experience working with electric motors, traction motors, or rotating equipment.
- Forklift Truck (FLT) licence.
- Experience of fault diagnosis, root cause analysis, and repair activities.
