Assistant Estimator

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Estimator to join a growing and established main contractor delivering a diverse range of construction, refurbishment, and fit-out projects across both public and private sectors.

Working as part of the pre-construction team, you will support the preparation of tenders, cost plans, and pricing submissions while gaining valuable exposure to all stages of the estimating process. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of competitive tender submissions and cost estimates.
  • Review drawings, specifications, schedules, and tender documentation.
  • Measure quantities from drawings and project information.
  • Obtain and analyse quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Assist in preparing pricing schedules, cost plans, and tender reports.
  • Support the development of budgets and cost advice during pre-construction stages.
  • Maintain estimating databases, subcontractor records, and cost information.
  • Liaise with project managers, commercial teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain pricing and technical information.
  • Attend site visits and pre-tender meetings where required.
  • Assist in identifying project risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions.
  • Support the handover of successful tenders to the project delivery team.
  • Ensure all tender submissions are completed accurately and within required deadlines.


Skills & Experience


Essential

  • Previous experience within a construction, estimating, quantity surveying, commercial, or administrative role.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work to deadlines.
  • A proactive and positive approach to learning and development.


Desirable

  • Experience working within a main contracting environment.
  • Construction-related qualification (Degree, HNC, HND, NVQ, or equivalent).
  • Understanding of construction methods, procurement routes, and tendering processes.
  • Experience using estimating or take-off software.
  • Knowledge of JCT contracts and construction documentation.
