CNC Machinist / Setter Operator

At Abrasives we are looking for a CNC Machinist / Setter Operator to join our CNC Production team, helping to deliver high-quality precision-engineered rotary dresser products that support customers across a range of advanced manufacturing industries.

This role will be part of our specialist production team based in Staverton. You'll work with modern CNC machining technology and precision measurement equipment to manufacture highly engineered products to exceptionally tight tolerances. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CNC professional who enjoys problem-solving, working with advanced manufacturing processes and taking ownership of product quality. You'll play a key role in ensuring customer requirements are met while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

This is a permanent role working Monday to Thursday 7:30am - 4:00pm - Friday 7:30am - 12:30pm and following successful completion of probation, you'll also benefit from our flexible working hours policy, allowing you to work your 8 hours shift between the hours of 6am and 6pm.

What we're looking for:

  • Proven experience setting and operating CNC machining centres within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings and CNC programs accurately.
  • Experience working to extremely tight tolerances using a range of precision measuring equipment.
  • Strong understanding of CNC tooling, machine set-up, machining parameters and process optimisation.
  • A proactive approach to quality, safety and continuous improvement, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

What you will be doing:

  • Setting up and operating CNC machines and associated manual equipment to manufacture rotary dresser products and moulds to exact customer specifications.
  • Loading, editing and optimising CNC programs while selecting appropriate tooling, machine settings and machining methods.
  • Monitoring machining operations and making adjustments to ensure product quality, efficiency and compliance with tight tolerances.
  • Carrying out in-process and final inspections using precision measuring equipment and completing all required production and quality documentation.
  • Supporting production targets through effective machine maintenance, SAP transactions, stock control activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
