Role Overview

A Matchtech client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Commercial Manager to play a critical role in the delivery of one of the UK's most significant nuclear projects - Sizewell C. This role will lead commercial strategy, contract management, and financial control across major work packages. You will be required to be in the London Office 3 days a week.

The successful candidate will bring extensive NEC contract expertise and a proven track record of delivering major capital projects (£200m+), ideally within nuclear, energy, or regulated infrastructure environments.



Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of major contracts and work packages across the Sizewell C project.
  • Provide expert-level NEC contract administration, ensuring compliance and best practises across all project phases.
  • Establish and drive commercial strategy, including cost management, risk mitigation, and value optimisation.
  • Manage contractual negotiations, change control, claims, and dispute resolution.
  • Deliver robust cost forecasting and reporting, ensuring alignment with project budgets and financial targets.
  • Partner with delivery, engineering, and project controls teams to ensure integrated project execution.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities, ensuring proactive mitigation strategies are implemented.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to commercial teams, ensuring a high-performance culture.
  • Support procurement strategies, supplier engagement, and contract award processes.
  • Interface with key stakeholders including clients, contractors, regulators, and joint venture partners.


Key Requirements



Essential Experience

  • Significant experience operating as a Commercial Manager / Senior Commercial Manager on large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering major capital projects valued at £200 million+.
  • Strong expertise in NEC contracts (NEC3 and/or NEC4), including hands-on administration.
  • Proven track record in:
    • Contract negotiation and management
    • Change control and claims resolution
    • Cost management and forecasting
  • Experience leading commercial teams and managing complex supply chains.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across multidisciplinary teams.


Desirable Experience

  • Experience within:
    • Nuclear sector
    • Energy / Power generation projects
    • Other highly regulated industries (utilities, infrastructure)
  • Understanding of UK regulatory frameworks for major infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working within alliance or joint venture project structures.

Qualifications

  • Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional membership (e.g., RICS, CICES, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
