THE COMPANY

We are recruiting on behalf of one of the North West's most respected precision engineering and tooling businesses. With over 70 years of engineering heritage, our client has built a reputation for delivering complex tooling, jigs, fixtures and precision-engineered solutions to globally recognised customers across the aerospace, defence, nuclear and advanced manufacturing sectors.

Operating from a modern manufacturing facility in Stockport, the business combines advanced CNC machining capability with project engineering expertise, supporting customers with complete manufacturing and tooling solutions from concept through to delivery.

Due to continued growth and a strong order pipeline, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Estimator to support new business opportunities and ongoing project delivery.

THE ROLE

As Estimator, you will play a key role within the commercial and engineering team, responsible for reviewing RFQs, interpreting engineering drawings and producing accurate cost estimates for precision-engineered components, tooling and manufacturing projects.

This position requires strong technical understanding of machining and manufacturing processes, combined with commercial awareness and the ability to work closely with customers, suppliers and internal engineering teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Review customer RFQs, technical drawings and specifications

- Produce accurate machining, tooling and manufacturing cost estimates

- Calculate material, machining, labour, subcontract and tooling costs

- Liaise with production, engineering and purchasing teams to ensure quote accuracy

- Support project costing, planning and feasibility assessments

- Work closely with customers regarding technical and commercial queries

- Identify manufacturing risks, opportunities and cost-saving improvements

- Maintain quotation records and support continuous improvement of estimating processes

- Support business development and customer relationship activities where required

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- Previous experience within an Estimator, Costing Engineer or Manufacturing Engineer role

- Strong understanding of CNC machining and precision engineering processes

- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications

- Aerospace, defence, tooling or subcontract machining experience advantageous

- Good commercial awareness and attention to detail

- Strong communication and organisational skills

- Ability to manage multiple quotations and priorities simultaneously

- Apprentice-trained or engineering background highly desirable

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

- Multi-axis machining environments

- Aerospace tooling or precision fixtures

- Fabrication and assembly costing

- CAD/CAM exposure

- ERP/MRP systems

- Customer-facing engineering support
