Job Title: Full-Time Teaching Assistants (ALN) – Secondary Schools
Location: Llantwit Major, Vale of Glamorgan
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, term-time (with potential for extension/permanent roles)
Salary: £93-100 per day (depending on experience)

About the Role
Teaching Personnel are recruiting committed, compassionate Teaching Assistants to support Additional Learning Needs (ALN) provision within secondary school bases in Llantwit Major. Starting September 2026, you’ll work closely with teaching staff, ALN Coordinators, and external professionals to help learners with a range of needs (e.g., autism, ADHD, speech and language, social/emotional, and moderate learning difficulties) access the curriculum and thrive in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality in-class support, small-group interventions, and 1:1 assistance as directed by the class teacher/ALNCo.
  • Adapt materials and scaffold learning to meet individual targets and IDP outcomes.
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and independence using consistent strategies.
  • Support literacy, numeracy, and life skills, tracking progress and contributing to reviews.
  • Assist with personal care and sensory/physical needs where required.
  • Maintain accurate records, contribute to planning, and communicate effectively with staff, parents/carers, and outside agencies.
  • Uphold safeguarding, inclusion, and wellbeing policies at all times.

About You

  • Experience supporting young people with ALN/SEND in a school or youth setting (secondary preferred).
  • Understanding of differentiated teaching, reasonable adjustments, and inclusive practice.
  • Calm, patient, and resilient, with strong relationship-building skills.
  • Confident using behaviour support and de-escalation approaches.
  • Good literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills.
  • Collaborative team player with excellent communication and professionalism.

Desirable

  • Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
  • Training in ALN/SEND strategies (e.g., ASD approaches, Thrive, ELKLAN, Team-Teach/PBIS).
  • Knowledge of Welsh education frameworks and IDP processes.
  • Welsh language skills.
