A welcoming and highly specialist school near Camberley supporting children and young people with severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism, and complex sensory and communication needs.
Many of their pupils are non-verbal or require alternative communication methods, and learning is delivered through a highly personalised, multi-sensory approach focused on independence, engagement, and quality of life outcomes.
๐ฏThe Opportunity โ Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant
This is an excellent opportunity for graduates who are considering careers in psychology, educational psychology, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, teaching, or specialist SEN provision.
As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support pupils 1:1 and in small groups with highly individualised learning and care
- Gain hands-on experience with communication approaches including AAC, intensive interaction, and non-verbal communication strategies
- Work closely with pupils with complex learning profiles including SLD, PMLD, autism, and sensory/physical needs
- Support teachers, therapists, and SEN professionals in delivering personalised learning programmes
- Develop a deep understanding of child development, behaviour as communication, and sensory learning
- Gain real-world insight into education, psychology, and therapeutic support approaches
- Graduate (psychology, education, social sciences, or related field desirable)
- Passionate about working with children with complex SEN needs
- Patient, calm, and emotionally resilient
- Keen to develop a career in SEN, psychology, therapy, or education
- No prior experience required โ full training provided
- Exceptional hands-on experience in a specialist SLD/PMLD setting
- Direct exposure to communication, sensory, and developmental approaches
- Valuable experience for careers in Educational Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Teaching, or SEN careers
- Full training and ongoing CPD in complex needs support
- A highly supportive and experienced specialist team
