We are working with a leading civil engineering contractor to recruit an experienced Health & Safety Manager for a major heavy civils project in Plymouth.
This is a technically focused role where the client is specifically looking for someone with a strong design background and a solid understanding of risk management at pre-construction and design stages — not just site-based compliance.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting project delivery teams, driving best practice across design risk management, CDM compliance, and operational safety throughout the lifecycle of the scheme.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead health & safety strategy across a major heavy civils project
- Manage design risk reviews and ensure hazards are mitigated early in the process
- Support design and engineering teams with technical H&S guidance
- Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and industry best practice
- Conduct audits, inspections, and incident investigations where required
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and client representatives
- Promote a proactive safety culture across the project
Requirements:
- Proven experience within heavy civils or major infrastructure projects
- Strong design background is essential
- Excellent understanding of CDM regulations and design risk management
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification
- Ability to engage confidently with both design and operational teams
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
