Learning Coach

South Thames College Group · Direct employer

28 hours a week over 38 weeks a year - Term Time Only

The role of Learning Coach is a rewarding one, as you will support and mentor learners with social, emotional, and mental health needs, a disability, learning difficulty or medical condition, and/or with ESOL, English and Maths support needs, to enable them to successfully complete their qualifications, course and where appropriate, education, health and care plan (EHCP) outcomes.

These are fantastic opportunities for anyone looking to begin a career in education, especially for those who are recent graduates and looking to become a Teacher.

Experience is not essential but it would be beneficial if you have worked with young people or adults who have social, emotional and mental health needs. What we do ask is that you can demonstrate the ability to use initiative, organise and prioritise, and can communicate well at all levels. We would like you to have good administration and computer skills, to allow you to keep high quality written records of learner progress and set appropriate smart targets based on EHCP outcomes, agreed support plans and coursework.

We’d also like you to be willing to achieve a GCSE/Level 2 or equivalent with grades A*-C in English and Mathematics (should you not already hold this).

Closing date for the return of a complete online application is 21 June 2026

Interviews/assessments will be held in the weeks commencing 22 and 29 June 2026

For Carshalton/Merton candidates, they will be held at Merton College and for Kingston/Wandsworth candidates, they will be held at Kingston College.

The pro-rata benefits package includes 27 days annual leave plus up to 8 additional days over Christmas/New Year as well as an additional 5 days Wellbeing leave to enhance employees’ physical and mental health. This leave is all in addition to Bank Holiday entitlement. There is an excellent pension scheme that receives a significant financial contribution from the employer (Teachers Pensions or Local Government Pension Scheme), subsidised sports facilities and professional development and training plus a salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme. The benefits package will be pro-rata for part time vacancies.
