Managing Quantity Surveyor – Highways Scheme

The Opportunity

Our client, Taylor Woodrow, a leading infrastructure and civil engineering specialist, is seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor (MQS) to join a unique highways restructure scheme in Milton Keynes.

This is a key leadership role on a high-profile project, operating under NEC Contract Option C, where strong commercial control and collaborative working are critical to success.

You will take ownership of the commercial function on the project, working closely with the client and leading a small commercial team to ensure delivery against programme, budget, and contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all commercial activities across the project lifecycle, ensuring robust cost control and maximising value
  • Take full responsibility for NEC Option C contract administration, including compensation events, change control, and target cost management
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a key commercial interface
  • Manage, mentor and develop a small team of Quantity Surveyors
  • Oversee CVR reporting, forecasting and cash flow management
  • Drive effective risk and opportunity management
  • Lead subcontract procurement, management and final accounts
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, including timely notices and commercial processes
  • Work collaboratively with delivery teams to support programme and project performance

About You

  • Proven experience working as a Managing or Senior Quantity Surveyor on infrastructure or highways projects
  • Strong NEC Contract experience (Option C essential)
  • Demonstrated success in client-facing roles, with excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Experience leading and managing a small commercial team
  • Strong commercial acumen with a proactive approach to identifying risks and opportunities
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
  • Relevant degree (Quantity Surveying or similar) or equivalent experience
