We are currently recruiting for an experienced Out of Hours Emergency Officer to work for our client based in Islington.
As an Out of Hours Emergency Officer, you will play a vital role in providing an effective emergency response service outside normal council operating hours. You will ensure urgent issues affecting residents are assessed, prioritised, and resolved appropriately while acting as the first point of contact for emergency enquiries and coordinating responses with relevant council departments, contractors, and partner agencies.
Key Responsibilities of the Out of Hours Emergency Officer:

Handle emergency telephone calls, emails, and referrals from residents, emergency services, and partner organisations.

Assess the urgency of incidents and determine appropriate actions in accordance with council policies and procedures.

Coordinate emergency responses relating to:
-
Housing repairs
-
Homelessness
-
Anti-social behaviour
-
Noise complaints
-
Safeguarding concerns
-
Other urgent matters
-

Liaise with police, ambulance services, fire services, social care teams, housing officers, and emergency contractors.

Provide advice, guidance, and reassurance to residents during emergency situations.

Maintain accurate records of incidents, actions taken, and outcomes using council IT systems.

Monitor emergency inboxes and reporting systems during out-of-hours shifts.

Escalate complex or high-risk incidents to senior managers where necessary.

Ensure compliance with safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety, and data protection requirements.
Working Hours for Out of Hours Emergency Officer:

35 hours per week

Night shifts and weekend night shifts
-
Approximately 1:00am – 9:00am
-
5 days per week
-
100% remote following completion of training
Requirements for the Out of Hours Emergency Officer:

Previous experience in customer service, housing, emergency response, social care, local authority, or a similar environment.

Strong customer service and communication skills.

Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.

Experience dealing with vulnerable individuals and sensitive situations.

Excellent organisational and record-keeping abilities.

Competent in Microsoft Office and case management systems.

Ability to work independently during evenings, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

Knowledge of safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection requirements.

Ability to prioritise workloads and respond effectively to emergency situations.
