Portfolio Payroll are supporting a well‑established organisation who are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join their Support Services team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role within a busy, collaborative Payroll Team who provide essential support to colleagues across the Society.

About the Role

As a Payroll Specialist, you will manage the full end‑to‑end payroll process across multiple systems, ensuring colleagues are paid accurately and on time. You'll act as a trusted point of contact for payroll and pension queries, support audits, maintain GDPR compliance, and contribute to ongoing system improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to payroll and pension queries, providing clear and accurate guidance
  • Manage end‑to‑end payroll across multiple payrolls, ensuring timely and compliant processing
  • Perform payroll checks, reconciliations, and resolve errors, warnings, and tax code updates
  • Process starters, leavers, contractual changes, deductions, statutory payments and third‑party schedules
  • Administer auto‑enrolment processes including assessments, opt‑ins/outs and payment reconciliations
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and support internal/external audits
  • Ensure GDPR and data protection compliance across all payroll activity
  • Validate reports and calculations to ensure accurate payslips and legislative compliance
  • Support system testing, upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives

About You

We're looking for an honest, reliable and motivated individual with strong organisational skills and a keen eye for detail. You'll thrive in a fast‑paced environment and bring at least 2 years' payroll experience.

You will also demonstrate:

  • Strong knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments and payroll regulations
  • Excellent IT skills including Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams
  • Experience using iTrent (desirable but not essential)
  • High accuracy in data entry and strong numeracy skills
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Understanding of GDPR, data protection and payroll compliance
