Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Deliver: Plan and execute a highly individualised, sensory-based curriculum that caters directly to the unique medical, physical, and cognitive profiles of each pupil.
  • Assess Progression: Utilise specialised assessment frameworks to accurately track and celebrate small steps of progress.
  • Lead a Team: Provide strong pedagogical leadership to a multidisciplinary classroom team of specialist Teaching Assistants, ensuring a cohesive approach to care and education.
  • Communication Mastery: Integrate augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems into daily routines, including Makaton, PECS, Eye-Gaze technology, and objects of reference.
  • Collaborative Working: Partner closely with a wide range of external professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists (SLT), Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and specialist nursing staff.
  • Family Partnerships: Maintain open, supportive, and regular communication with parents and carers to ensure holistic support across both home and school environments.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications: Must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) valid in the United Kingdom.
  • Experience: Proven experience teaching pupils with PMLD, severe learning difficulties (SLD), or complex medical needs within a UK mainstream or special school setting.
  • Pedagogical Knowledge: Deep understanding of sensory integration, therapeutic curriculum design, and moving and handling procedures.
  • Personal Attributes: Exceptional patience, resilience, warmth, and a genuinely creative approach to problem-solving in the classroom.
