Working Pattern: Hybrid (office & home-based)
Location Requirement: Office attendance required 2 days per week (currently Tuesday & Thursday), with additional days as per business needs
About the Role Hertfordshire County Council’s Children’s Specialist Adolescent Service Hertfordshire (SASH) team is seeking a passionate and experienced Practice Development Lead to join on a 12-month secondment.
This is a unique and impactful opportunity for a professional who is driven by staff development, quality improvement, and excellence in social care practice. You will play a key role in strengthening workforce capability and improving outcomes for children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with Team Managers and the Quality Assurance Team to identify training needs and deliver targeted support.
- Provide structured support to teams with Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSWs), including developing policies and guidance to support completion of the ASYE programme.
- Deliver coaching, mentoring, reflective supervision, and training to NQSWs (1:1 and group settings).
- Lead the development and coordination of the ASYE training programme, including commissioning external providers or delivering training directly.
- Support and contribute to the assessment of NQSWs against the Knowledge and Skills Statements (KSS).
- Offer mentoring and coaching to both newly qualified and experienced social workers, as well as managers.
- Support the practice learning experience of social work students and apprentices across all supported routes.
- Identify and promote good practice, while working collaboratively with teams to address areas of improvement.
- Qualified Social Worker with strong experience in children’s social care.
- Passionate about learning, development, and improving practice standards.
- Experience supporting or assessing NQSWs/ASYE programmes.
- Skilled in training delivery, coaching, and mentoring.
- Confident working with a range of stakeholders and influencing practice improvement.
