Prep Room Supervisor

Location: Downham Market, Norfolk
Reporting To: Production Manager / Operations Manager

Hours: Monday to Friday, morning shift (tipically work until finish 4:00PM or 5:00 PM)

Role Overview

This is a hands-on supervisory role requiring strong leadership skills, food production experience, and a commitment to delivering high-quality products to customers.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Quality & Yield Control
  2. Ensure all fruit and vegetables are prepared to customer specifications.
  3. Monitor product quality, freshness, and operational yields.
  4. Minimise waste and maximise raw material utilisation.
  5. Verify accurate weighing, packing, and labelling of prepared products.

Food Safety & Hygiene

  • Maintain HACCP procedures and food safety standards.
  • Monitor temperatures within chilled preparation and storage areas.
  • Prevent cross-contamination and ensure allergen controls are followed.
  • Oversee cleaning schedules for prep areas, equipment, and machinery.
  • Ensure compliance with all UK food safety regulations.

Production Management

  • Coordinate daily production activities to meet customer orders and delivery schedules.
  • Supervise the safe and efficient use of preparation equipment.
  • Monitor productivity levels and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Organise staffing levels and daily work allocation to meet operational demands.

Health & Safety

  1. Promote a strong health and safety culture throughout the department.
  2. Ensure PPE is worn correctly and safe knife-handling procedures are followed.
  3. Monitor and eliminate slip, trip, and other workplace hazards.
  4. Conduct routine safety checks and report any issues promptly.

Team Leadership & Training

  1. Lead, motivate, and support Prep Room Operatives.
  2. Deliver inductions and ongoing training to new and existing staff.
  3. Monitor employee performance and provide coaching where required.
  4. Maintain accurate production, hygiene, and traceability records.
  5. Prepare the department for internal and external audits.

Skills & Experience Required

  1. Previous supervisory experience within food production, fresh produce, manufacturing, or FMCG environments.
  2. Strong understanding of HACCP, food hygiene, and health & safety regulations.
  3. Experience managing teams and coordinating production workflows.
  4. Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  5. Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
  6. Competent with production records, traceability systems, and audit requirements.
  7. Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
