Job Title: Primary teacher with nurturing skills
Location: Higford School, Near Shifnal, Shropshire TF11 9ET
Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Monday to Friday
Salary: Up to £44,310 per annum (depending on experience, not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time
Start: June 2026

We are seeking a nurturing Primary Teacher who is passionate about supporting children with a diverse range of needs, including those with autism, communication differences, attachment needs and other complex profiles. You’ll join a dedicated, multidisciplinary team working together to create a learning environment where every child can flourish academically, socially and emotionally.
What you’ll do:
As a Primary Teacher, you will:
- Deliver high‑quality, engaging teaching across a range of subjects, ensuring every child experiences success and meaningful progress.
- Embrace neuro‑affirming, trauma‑informed and relationship‑based approaches to support pupils’ wellbeing and learning.
- Work closely with therapists, leaders, families and external agencies to create individualised learning pathways and therapeutic education plans.
- Model effective strategies for colleagues, supporting the development of inclusive practice across the school.
- Create a safe, stimulating and well‑organised classroom environment that nurtures independence, communication and confidence.
- Use assessment thoughtfully to celebrate progress, identify next steps and shape future learning.
- Support pupils to access learning and social opportunities, including developing independence skills and, where required, providing intimate care.
- Contribute to whole‑school development, resource planning and the ongoing improvement of provision for children with complex needs.
Who we’re looking for:
- QTS/ degree or equivalent required
- A genuine passion for teaching kay stage 2 & 3 children.
- A strong commitment to inclusive, therapeutic and child‑centred practice.
- Knowledge of high‑quality teaching, curriculum planning and assessment.
- The ability to analyse data to inform teaching and identify pupils needing additional support.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
About Us
Options Higford is a specialist school set in 28 acres of beautiful Shropshire countryside. We provide a high quality, holistic education for up to 60 autistic students who also have associated behavioural needs. Class groups have five students in with at least 1:1 staffing. We provide personalised curriculums for each student based on their individual needs and aim to support them to make progress academically, socially, with skills for life, regulating their emotions and accessing the community.
For over 19 years, Options Autism has provided specialist care and education for children, young people, and adults with autism, complex needs, and learning difficulties.
