Qualified SEN Teaching Assistant | PR4 Primary

Tradewind Recruitment

1:2 SEN Teaching Assistant | PR4 Primary School

Role: 1:2 SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: PR4 Area (Preston/Fylde local primary)

Contract: Temporary, Term-Time Only

Duration: September - December

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Pay: £92.56 - £95.00 per day

About the Role

Are you a nurturing and patient educator with a passion for Early Years development and communication support?

A lovely, small, one-form-entry primary school in the PR4 area is seeking a dedicated, qualified SEN Teaching Assistant to provide vital 1:2 support for two children with verbal needs who will be joining the school family this September.

This is a full-time, temporary contract running from September until December. It is a truly rewarding opportunity to play a pivotal role in these children's early school journey, helping them settle in, feel safe, and develop their communication skills during a crucial transition period.

This school is easily accessible by Lytham, Kirkham, Warton, Freckleton, Ashton and Preston Docks.

The Classroom Environment

Because this is a close-knit, local one-form-entry school, you will benefit from a highly supportive team structure. You will not be isolated; you will be working directly inside a classroom that already has both a full-time Class Teacher and a general Classroom Teaching Assistant present. This collaborative environment ensures you have the backing and resources needed to focus entirely on the progress and well-being of the two children in your care.

Key Responsibilities & Skills Needed

Your primary focus will be supporting the development and on boarding of these two children. To thrive in this role, we are looking for someone who has:

  • EYFS or Pre-Verbal Experience: Ideally, you will have a strong background working within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) or with pre-verbal/non-verbal children. An understanding of how early communication develops is essential.
  • On boarding & Transition Support: Starting a new school can be daunting. You will be their consistent, friendly face, helping them navigate new routines, social interactions, and classroom expectations.
  • Communication Strategies: Experience using physical cues, visual timetables, or basic communication aids to help the children express their needs and engage with learning.
  • Patience and Nurture: A gentle, encouraging approach to help build the children's confidence and independence at their own pace.

Requirements

  • Essential: A recognised Teaching Assistant Qualification (e.g., Level 2 or Level 3 Certificate/Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience working with children with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN), or strong experience within an EYFS setting.
  • Knowledge of how to support early communication and language development.
  • A collaborative nature, ready to work closely with the Class Teacher and existing classroom TA.
  • An Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or the willingness to apply for one).
