Our client is a well-established and growing contractor specialising in heating, energy efficiency, renewable technologies, and property improvement works across the residential sector. Working closely with local authorities, housing associations, and private sector clients, the business has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality refurbishment and decarbonisation projects throughout the UK.

With extensive experience delivering planned maintenance, heating upgrades, retrofit programmes, and renewable energy installations, the company continues to expand its presence within both the social housing and private sectors. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to strengthen their commercial team.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team delivering social housing refurbishment and energy efficiency projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially aware individual who can quickly integrate into the business and take ownership of projects from a commercial perspective.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day commercial management of contracts, ensuring projects are delivered profitably while supporting the company's continued expansion into renewable technologies and private sector markets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the commercial delivery of social housing refurbishment, heating, and energy efficiency projects
  • Prepare subcontractor enquiry packages, analyse quotations, and manage procurement activities
  • Negotiate and appoint subcontractors in line with project budgets and programme requirements
  • Manage subcontractor accounts including valuations, variations, payments, and final accounts
  • Prepare and maintain accurate cost reports, forecasts, and cash flow projections
  • Monitor project costs and identify commercial risks and opportunities
  • Ensure projects are delivered within budget while maximising profitability
  • Prepare and submit client valuations and commercial reports
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure commercial objectives are achieved
  • Ensure contractual compliance and effective administration of subcontract agreements
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation throughout the project lifecycle
  • Support senior management with wider business and commercial objectives
Requirements
  • Previous experience within a Quantity Surveyor role within construction, refurbishment, or planned maintenance sectors
  • Experience delivering social housing refurbishment projects is essential
  • Ability to manage projects independently and hit the ground running
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes
  • Proven experience managing subcontractor procurement and accounts
  • Experience producing cost reports, forecasts, and valuations
  • Commercially aware with strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced environment
  • Good IT skills including Excel and commercial reporting systems
  • Full UK driving licence preferred
Desirable:
  • Experience within planned maintenance, heating, or energy efficiency programmes
  • Knowledge of renewable technologies including air source heat pumps, solar PV, or retrofit projects
  • Knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts
  • Experience working with local authorities or housing associations
